Seven Core Modules to Master Public Design
Overview
Our Universal Public Design Modules form a comprehensive, accredited framework designed for officials seeking chartered status or professional recognition. Comprising seven core modules, the pathway integrates public sector case studies with immediate, workplace-based projects to embed design skills directly in departments.
Delegates can register for individual modules to address specific skill gaps, or complete the full sequence for chartered eligibility. Curriculum standards are mapped to the Policy Profession Standards, Digital and Data Capability Framework, and the Operational Delivery Skills Framework.
Who is it for?
Designed for existing designers, aspiring design professionals, and anyone working in design-centered teams across government (including policy analysts, operational leads, user researchers, content writers, and delivery managers).
Curriculum & Modules
- Understand the Problem: Connect lived experience directly to complex systems.
- Make Sense of Evidence: Integrate diverse user, technical, and strategic insights.
- Communicate Insights and Ideas: Visualise and articulate design findings clearly.
- Create Options for Change: Generate and structure creative policy and service options.
- Prototype, Test, Learn, and Adapt: Experiment safely to de-risk implementation.
- Engage People: Design with and for citizens, incorporating participatory methods.
- Share and Reuse What Works: Codify design patterns to scale solutions.
Time Commitment
4 days per module (2 consecutive classroom days, followed by 2 work-based project days in subsequent weeks).
Assessment
A work-based portfolio piece per module, verified and accredited by the Chartered Society of Designers (leading to Level 4 or Level 6 professional qualifications).
Price
£650 + VAT per module
Block rate of £500 + VAT for departmental groups of 10+.
